Kotikan are a leading Scottish mobile apps developer with application downloads numbering several million. We are passionate about mobile, usability, innovation and solving problems faced in everyday life. Producing outstanding software is our number one priority so we hold our developers in great esteem. We like to keep stress to a minimum, making liberal use of agile methodologies to ensure smooth running of all our projects.

Kotikan are seeking an exceptional software engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate would have commercial experience of applying best practice engineering and design principals to produce the highest standard of software. They should also have excellent communication skills and be comfortable in a client facing role. We are looking for an ambitious team-player keen to grow their skills and expand responsibilities. A lateral thinker and keen problem solver, applicants should be enthusiastic about mobile and the opportunity to create technology that really works for people.

Technologies you could expect to work in include iPhone, Android, JavaSE, HTML5, J2ME and Blackberry. Prior experience with any of these technologies would be a plus but is not essential as training and support will be provided. Above all we are looking for a great engineer. Our flexible team structure will give you the opportunity to work on a variety of projects across a number of platforms and technologies. You would be joining a team of talented engineers and would benefit from our initiatives to help developers to learn as much as they can from each other.

Kotikan are looking to build up our bank of freelance designers for mobile app interfaces. Ideally you will have designed apps for all major platforms. Experience in mobile is not essential, but equally we would be looking for a discounted rate from freelancers who do not have specific mobile app design experience but have a desire to learn.

You must provide a link to your portfolio or attach as a PDF (20MB or under). Freelancers who do not provide a portfolio will not be considered. Please send a cover letter (stating your day rate) and CV to jobs@kotikan.com.

Requirements:

• Excellent working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (chiefly Photoshop, Illustrator & InDesign)
• Pixel-perfect eye for detail
• Genuine passion for crafting memorable and user-friendly experiences of a high quality
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Critical analysis skills: the ability to objectively critique your own work and the work of others
• Knowledge of current trends in Mobile UX Design; keen understanding of the interface differences between platforms & how these impact the design process
• Wireframing skills (using tools such as pen & paper, Balsamiq, Omnigraffle etc)
• Solid sketching / storyboarding skills

Desirable Skills:

• Experience designing cross-platform apps for major platforms including iOS (both iPhone and iPad) and Android.
